The Apple Watch Series 4 is probably the best smartwatch you can find in the market today. There is no comparison to it at this point. We wrote earlier our list of best fitness trackers while keeping price and features in mind. But we are not talking about just a fitness tracker here. We are talking about a full-fledged smartwatch that would include much more than that. The major feature is on Health. The Series 4 rivals are far behind to compete at the moment. The Apple Watch Series 4 has everything that other brands like Samsung, Moto, Huawei, Garmin hasn’t made yet.
Apple Watch Series (GPS + Cellular) Review – Introduction
During the launch of Apple Watch in 2015, it made a lot of buzz and then people started to realize what kind of necessity Apple has been making. While people were looking only it as a fitness tracker, soon they realized the Apple Watch is the most efficient Apple accessory at the moment. This came with a price tag. The price of Apple Watch Series 4 for GPS model is $399. The price for Apple Watch Series for Cellular model is $499. It is costly off course. But is it worth it? I would say absolutely Yes!
Apple has tweaked their earlier released smartwatches and made the newest and most upgraded watch Series 4. It has upgraded in terms of display, fast processor, sensors and software, alerts, information, build quality and much more. It comes with an all new electrical heart sensor and totally re-engineered Digital Crown with haptic feedback.
Let’s go through various criteria.
Design & Size:
The very first thing you note is that the watch’s display and the overall model is larger than it’s former models. There are no thick bezels that surround the display and it looks more elegant now. The display is about 30% larger than it’s predecessors which is a lot if you ask me and I really love it. The display for 40mm OLED screen size is 394×324 while for 44mm model it is 448×368. You can say that Apple Watch Series 4 model has a larger display and hence it has taken more advantage of the space because now display Icons are big and thus is touch experience. The brightness has been improved and now it’s even easier to see your watch’s display screen in bright daylight. Easier to read notifications and perform some tasks.
The aluminum finish on the Series 4 watch comes in three colors such as Silver, Space gray and Gold.
There are a lot of new watch faces and they are really beautiful that take the advantage of bigger screen size. The Series 4 watch faces have a lot of effects and elegant.
The case size is 40mm/44mm and has a display area of 759sq mm/977sq mm. The case thickness is 10.7mm. Apple Watch Series 4 runs a 64-bit dual-core S4 processor which is 2 times faster than it’s earlier models.
All Your Health Advice On Your Watch
The Apple Watch Series 4 has few features that have blown us away. The first thing is the ECG app which can take electrocardiograms and another one is the atrial fibrillation which will notify you whenever there are five irregular heart rhythms. Apple has also got clearance from the U.S Food and Drug administration so you can say this is pretty outstanding in features because it’s tried and tested.
This is a significant improvement in features and what a smartwatch that’s only on your wrist can actually sense your heart rate so accurately and give you notifications for your heart rate irregularities. The ECG app is tested by us and it’s accurate. The new Breathe app is always available on your watch faces.
The upgraded accelerometer is improved up to 32-g forces and gyroscope sensors and can sense your moves back and forth. If you fall, the watch can detect it so fine and accurate and will notify you just as you see here. That’s right if you fall, it shows immediately emergency SOS notification to be sent.
Coming to its water resistance rating, the Apple Watch Series 4 has a water resistance rating of 50 meters and it is perfectly fine when you are swimming. However, I advise you not to use for other water activities like scuba diving and such. Not just about Apple Watch Series 4 but any watch.
The LTPO OLED Retina display with Force Touch (1000 nits) provides perfect brightness on your display when you are in outdoor right under the sun. The Digital Crown with haptic feedback and improved Louder speaker are some of the features that deserve good mention as well.
There are new and improved automatic workout detections along with new workout options such as Yoga and hiking. More advanced features are cadence and pace alerts, personalized coach, challenges. There is a built-in cellular which you can use as a Walkie-Talkie or make phone calls and messages.
Software & Apps
The Apple Watch Series 4 as we said above has a 64-bit dual-core S4 processor which is 2 times faster than it’s earlier models. The watch is incredibly fast on performance levels. Launching an app happens instantly and it’s touch sense is pretty fast. Whether its a map or you are loading your email in the mail app, it merely takes a second or two to launch.
Coming to our Apple assistant, ‘Siri’. Earlier you have to command by saying ‘Hey Siri’ to launch your assistant. But in Series 4, all you need to do is raise your wrist and start talking. Although Siri is not that improvised assistant as Google’s, but it can actually be used for weather forecast or making a call.
The watchOS has been improved a lot and has been loaded with various apps. Whether you want to play Apple music or listen to Apple podcasts, Series 4 is your favourite thing besides your iPhone.
Battery & Charger
The Apple Watch Series 4 can withstand around 18 to 20 hours on a full charge and it’s pretty same for every model. This in comparison with Samsung Galaxy Watch is not great. But 18-24 hours I would say is sufficient for an Apple watch that runs fully loaded for a day. In fact, I have to charge my iPhone more often than I do my Series 4 watch. There isn’t a significant improvement in the battery from it’s previous Series 3 model.
